VBS June 8 – 12
Children ages 4 through rising sixth grade are invited to join us June 8 – 12, 9:00 am – noon at Southport Presbyterian Church, 1025 East Moore Street in Southport. This fun-packed week will provide plenty of bible stories, games, music and crafts to help kids accept the challenge to “armor up” and be strong by remaining with God.
North Castle is hidden in a frozen land. The King’s valiant Knights are on a quest in search of the King’s Armor. But the armor isn’t what they think it is. Our theme this year, Knights of North Castle: Quest for the King’s Armor, invites children to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His power by exploring how we put on the armor of God. Kids will take on the role of brave Knights and begin their quest each session by opening the King’s Book. They’ll explore Old and New Testament stories and discover different pieces of protective armor — the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Justice, the Shoes of Peace, the Shield of Faith, and the Helmet of Salvation — at work in the lives of familiar Bible characters, and explore how that armor works in their own lives as they follow and serve God.
Please note: we are a nut free church. No nut products (peanut or tree) are allowed to enter our building. Thanks for your understanding.

Winterfest Bake Sale Nets $1,186 for Food Pantry
The Presbyterian Women’s (PW) Annual Bake Sale at Southport’s Annual Winter Craft Festival December 15 raised $1,186 for the Southport Oak Island Interchurch Fellowship Food Pantry. PW Representative Laura Cacchione presented the check to Bill Hogue, manager of the Food Pantry just in time for the Christmas holidays. The PW project was headed by Maggie Lhotsky and Martha Brown, co-chairs of the PW Mission and Giving Committee. Volunteers baked holiday treats, and additional volunteers set up and staffed the booth at Southport’s Annual Winter Craft Festival in Franklin Square Park on Dec. 14. Many thanks to all the bakers, packers and other volunteers who helped make this worthwhile local mission project a huge success!
Angel Tree Gifts Due by December 15
Stop by the Narthex and pick up some Christmas ”Wish Lists” from our Angel Tree for local Southport ministries supported by SPC. The tree is decorated with Angel, Tree and Stocking gift category ornaments. Angels are for two families adopted through Southport Elementary, plus Angels for Providence Home ($25 Walmart Gift Cards). Tree Ornaments are for Matthew’s Ministry and the Food Pantry ($25 Walmart Gift Cards). If ornaments on the tree are taken before you have an opportunity to choose one, you can still support Matthew’s Ministry and the Food Pantry with extra gift cards as well as our two adopted families! Gifts for families should be wrapped and a permanent name tag attached to the gift along with the ornament tag. Gift cards can be placed in the gift envelope near the tree. All gifts should be returned to the church no later than Sunday, Dec 15! Our Mission Ministry thanks you for “Sharing the Gift of Giving and Caring this Christmas Season”!
Many thanks to Sue Meyer, Julia Hill, Doug Morrill, Mike Hill and
Carol Morrill (behind the camera) for setting up the 2019 Angel Tree.
