God’s Abundant Grace

“In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.  For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.  Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in the service to the Lord’s people.” 2 Corinthians 8:2-3

The new Christians of Macedonia and Corinth loved Paul very much. Since they loved him to no end and because Paul expressed his intention and passion of spreading the good news of Christ, there was an outpouring of that great love by joyous and liberal contributions to his work. Those early Christians believed and had tremendous faith and confidence in Paul’s message and vision. In a word, Paul did his utmost to accomplish his mission. By abundant giving, those who followed his teachings, were able to share in his word and work. Oh, that a passion of love and devotion would spring up in our hearts, to give beyond our ability.

The grace of God must be the foundation of all the good in us. Almighty God has given us His grace and we are driven to become useful servants to others in demonstrating that grace. Paul commends the great work and charity of the Macedonians. Likewise, when we give of our finances, utilize our spiritual gifts and help others for the glory of God, we become truly blessed. By doing so we technically give back to God what He owns in the first place. Remember before we give to others we must first give ourselves to God. By doing so we can show others where our true strength lies, both in times of joy and especially in times of sadness. Abundant joy creates a grateful heart. Be generous today and walk with the King.
