Sunday Worship

Southport Presbyterian Church is committed to encouraging participation in worship services by people of all ages, including serving as acolytes, reading scripture and sharing musical talents.

A bright, spacious activity area is available for babies and toddlers less than three years of age during Sunday worship. Children are cared for by member volunteers.

Ages Three – Fourth Grade

After the “Time with the Children” in the sanctuary, the teachers greet and escort the children to their classes. Through imaginative storytelling and multi-sensory materials, children experience the worship, peace and wonder of God. Curriculum is obtained from the presbytery or other Christian education sources and is approved by the Children, Youth and Family Committee.

Special Events
Throughout the year the committee provides special fellowship and service events such as “Movie Night,” Palm Sunday Easter egg hunt and a fall church picnic.

Middle and High School Youth
A Confirmation class for youth to explore personal faith and church commitment is offered by the pastor and youth leaders.

Mission, Camps and Special Events
Children, Youth & Family Ministry provides various activities throughout the year to include all children, youth, and their families.

Vacation Bible School
VBS is held for one week each summer in the morning and is open to the community. It is staffed by volunteers. The VBS curriculum is based on Christian VBS offerings, sometimes obtained from commercial publishers.

Southport Presbyterian Church turned into a Mars outpost during VBS in June as “Voyagers” journeyed through space, exploring where God’s power could take them. Beginning each day, the children lifted off from their outpost to distant planets on special missions to collect power sources, including faith, boldness, kindness, thankfulness and hope. Along the way they learned that just as God walked with heroes of the Bible, God is always with them too and is able to do far beyond all that they could ask or imagine!

Assisting in the adventure, was a robot named EP3-20, who along with the Commander, Pastor Ann Jahnes, who helped the children learn about God’s power within them based on a “Vector Verse” in Ephesians 3:20.
