Southport Presbyterian Church is committed to encouraging participation in worship services by people of all ages, including serving as acolytes, reading scripture and sharing musical talents.
A bright, spacious activity area is available for babies and toddlers less than three years of age during Sunday worship. Children are cared for by member volunteers.
After the “Time with the Children” in the sanctuary, the teachers greet and escort the children to their classes. Through imaginative storytelling and multi-sensory materials, children experience the worship, peace and wonder of God. Curriculum is obtained from the presbytery or other Christian education sources and is approved by the Children, Youth and Family Committee.
Middle and High School Youth
A Confirmation class for youth to explore personal faith and church commitment is offered by the pastor and youth leaders.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is held for one week each summer in the morning and is open to the community. It is staffed by volunteers. The VBS curriculum is based on Christian VBS offerings, sometimes obtained from commercial publishers.
Special Events, Mission and Camps
Throughout the year the committee provides special fellowship and service events such as “Movie Night,” Palm Sunday Easter egg hunt and a fall church picnic that includes all children, youth and families. In addition, this ministry provides opportunities for mission outreach activities and camps.
