Oh! The Places You’ll Go!
We all have to go through things sometimes. No matter what we plan or desire, as Dr. Seuss teaches us in his book, Oh! The Places You’ll Go!, some day we will all find ourselves in the lonely place, or the waiting place, the happy place, the successful place, the wandering place. Today, our church finds itself in the launching place.
Oh! There is so much we can DO to follow Jesus and be God’s people in this place, where we are right now.
That is why our church leaders met one fine morning in May – to share hopes and dreams, and to launch them. As elders and deacons gathered together, we told ourselves we were not “retreating” but “advancing”. We reflected upon our journey the last several years. Our congregation has been on an exciting road of growth and discovery. We’ve talked a lot about our purpose: our vision, core values, mission, and ministry priorities. We built an amazing ministry center, praying that it would lead us to share the journey: deeper in faith, broader in service, and stronger in unity.
Then we set ourselves on the pathway of doing. Every pilgrimage begins with dreaming and desiring before it can move to doing. Yet it is about moving, going somewhere. Oh! The places we will go! Our leaders are focusing upon where those places are, where God calling us to go and make a difference. We have not yet landed on a specific initiative. Here are some of their ideas: mental health, advocacy, shelter care, inter-faith and intercultural partnerships, educational symposiums, additional worship, and more. Join us on the journey of discovery and commitment!
To God be all glory, who by the power of the Holy Spirit at work within us,
is able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can ask or even imagine.
