Stephen Ministers: “The After People” Who Are There:
. . . after the phone call you hoped you’d never get.
. . . after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions you’ve held in
come crashing in on you.
. . . after the relationship falls apart and the bottom falls out of your life.
. . . after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do.”
. . . after the nursing home director shakes your hand and days, “Welcome to your new home.”
. . . after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away–and the house
suddenly seems empty.
. . . after the baby arrives, demanding more of you then you ever dreamed possible.
. . . after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck.
. . . after your family & friends have heard your story one too many times,
but you still need to talk it out.
Southport Presbyterian Stephen Ministers ARE the “After People.” They show up and are ready to come alongside you–or your friends, neighbors, coworkers or relatives– and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed. They are lay men and women who provide trained, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting or going through tough times.
They bring Christ’s presence to those in need by listening, caring, encouraging, and praying. Men minister to men, and women to women. If you or someone you love is struggling through a difficult time—grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis, Stephen Ministers are here to share that burden by providing strictly confidential, compassionate care.
If you are interested in having a Stephen Minister, contact Pastor Ann Jahnes at (910) 457-6811.
Stephen Ministers, Sally Barton and Phyllis Falkenstein participate in a week-long Stephen Leader Training Jan. 12–18. The leader’s training course is an engaging week of learning, discovery, worship, relationship building, and catching a vision for all that Stephen Ministry can be for our congregation. We are grateful to this church and the Congregational Care Ministry for providing funds and support to increase our number of Stephen Leaders in order to meet the future needs of our congregation. Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers all share a common passion—bringing Christ’s love and care to hurting people.
